Developer Box is live!

I want to welcome everyone to the newly-launched Developer Box website -- A place where web designers and developers can interact and share their knowledge. Our articles, forum, and projects give you the resources you need to build top-quality websites. We are aiming to build a community of website designers, developers and experts who can contribute to the site by writing articles, asking questions to the community, and starting projects.

What is Developer Box?

So what exactly is Developer Box? Well, at the moment it is primarily a 'blog' where I will write articles aimed at web developers and designers. I will be writing articles (mainly tutorials) on a variety of subjects; covering topics that interest me such as PHP development, Database Management and CSS Design. I want to make my articles available to the widest audience possible so they will vary in difficulty.

I have been working on the designs and code for Developer Box over the last few months. I wanted to build a website to showcase my projects and share my experience; making my work available to the programming community.

At this point in time we are only offering the articles, before we launch any of the other features we want to create a loyal readership.

A bit about me

My name is Adam Lewis; I'm a 16-year-old web developer from Leicestershire, England. I have been programming since the age of 12, when my ICT teacher showed me some Visual Basic (thankfully I no longer use it).

Ever since my introduction to computer programming I was hooked. I used to small build projects to challenge my ability; I completed a Space Invaders game and many other simple desktop applications before I moved on to web design.

It wasn't until a year later that I started getting interested in websites. I read some books on how the internet worked and started to have a go. I quickly became bored with the WYSIWYG editor I was using and found that editing the code manually gave much better results. So by 14, I was hand-coding my websites in HTML, CSS, JavaScipt and PHP.

I have worked on a few large projects; including a full-featured social network that I built for my friends. By giving myself such ridiculous challenges I managed to pick up loads of skills on the way.

The future

My aim is to increase support for the site. Hopefully, once the readership is large enough, I will be opening up a forum. In the past I always found it annoying that message boards and forums required you to get an account before posting, so I will be creating a system where signup is not required. I want to spread my passion for web development and design by making the content available to absolutely anyone, even beginners, and I hope that I will be able to help out by answering their questions.

I am currently working on a checkout system using PayPal Digital Goods. I want to be able to provide my work (templates, icons, frameworks etc.) through the Projects area of the website.

How can you help?

We need the help of you, the readers, to get this site off the ground. I am currently working alone and would really appreciate the help of another web developer/designer to write content for the site. If you are interested, please contact me.

Please help out by contributing to our articles (by means of the Facebook comment system). I would be grateful for any feedback on the site, my writing style (I know it's not great), or ideas for future articles. Just comment at the bottom of the page.

I will be posting regular updates on all of the following Social Media websites: Facebook, Twitter, Google+. So feel free to Like, Follow, and +1 us.
